Struggling with shrinkage or trying to avoid it? Well, I hate to break it to you but, it is all apart of the natural hair journey. With that being said I am going to give you my top three hair products that combat shrinkage. So, you can learn to work with your curls and not against them.
The first product is the Design Essentials Natural Curl Stretching Creme. I love this product! This product is super light on your curls, adds shine, and combats frizziness. It is a little on the pricier side but, a little goes a long way with this product. Mine has lasted for months. This product is available on Amazon, the design essentials website, and at your local beauty supply store.
The second product is the OGX Renewing + Argan Oil Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil. This product lives by its name to be super weightless. I use this product in hair right after I have washed it. Note that the best time to apply any curly hair product is when your hair is still drenching wet. I always have the best looks when my products are applied on wet hair then combed through with my Denman brush. This product is available at your local Walmart, Target, or beauty supply.
My third and final product is Eco-styler gel. Now, you guys know my last article on my top go-to natural hair products how much I LOVE this product. It is apart of absolutely every natural hairstyle I do. Whether it be a bun or a wash-and-go. What I didn’t share in the last post is how this gel actually carries soothing properties that flatten and stretch your curls. It carries enough weight to lather on your hair to elongate your curls while still leaving them bouncy. Do not just purchase any type of eco-styler, if you want to combat shrinkage. The only one that I recommend using is the one with Flaxseeds in them. Flaxseed, whether it being in an oil form or incorporated into your hair product, is great for protecting your hair, improving elasticity, and preventing breakage. This product is available online or at your local beauty supply store.
Preventing shrinkage is the most challenging part of the natural hair journey. However, there are a lot of heatless techniques that will stretch your curls. For example, Bantu knots, twist outs, braid outs, roller sets, and more. All of these methods along with the products listed above will without a doubt help you achieve whatever look you are going for.
