Hey Curlies,
There are a lot of hair traditions we have in the black culture that we’ll always remember. I used to love sitting on the floor and letting my mom grease my scalp. It just felt so good!
One of the traditions I hated was standing next to the stove waiting for the hot comb to warm up. My mom would always put grease on right before, and it would pop once the comb hit my hair. It’s seriously by the grace of God that I even have hair today – haha.
Although some of these black hair traditions are those we will want to pass down to our children, many of them do not promote healthy hair.
In this week’s episode of Curly Conversations, I’m sharing 5 black hair traditions we need to let go of in order to have thriving, healthy hair.

I have bought some aloe vera juice from the store and I notice that it has sugar in it and some other ingredients, that I cannot pronounce. Should I use it or what brand of aloe vera juice should I use? I know to use natural ingredients though…
Hi Takesha! Feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected] with your questions. It will be much easier for us to communicate 🙂
I have been natural for about 16+ years and I am learning so much info on black natural hair. I am finding myself teaching other naturals who are transitioning to be natural or have been natural for some time… When I continue to follow you or the other naturals on social media, I am imparting to other naturals what I am learning and what I already know. My hair is a little past my shoulders. Very thick and healthy. I have not put hear on my hair for quite sometime now…I am finding that I know quite a bit. But I am still learning about being natural and I am always willing to learn more… I so have a question to ask, “I want to know, I want to flat iron my natural hair, how do I keep my curl pattern and if I choose to flat iron it, will my hair be damaged, if so, how will I get it back to what it use to be..? Thanks for answering this question for me. Any other advice about how to keep and achieve natural healthy hair is always welcome…
