How long have you been natural?:
I’ve been natural since November 2009.
Why did you go natural?:
As I matured, I came upon a discovering of self. & as soon as I accepted myself, flaws and all, I began my transition into becoming a natural beauty. Besides, growing up reading about the Black Panther movement, and DuBois philosophy,. grew up with a mother that taught me the importance of my African roots, by introducing me to elements of the culture and heritage, as well as the need for understanding and acceptance of others. As a grew into aesthetics, I began to love myself more… and my hair is my crown, as I am a queen.
When did you Big chop?:
In November of 2009. I was a junior in high school, and my science teacher, Ms. Ma’at Lands started the natural movement in my high school. Her hair was more of a 4C. I loved it.
A short regimen you can share?:
I wash my hair once a week, and every month I try a new home recipe every other month or so. Currently, my favorites are: a deep conditioner including mayonnaise, olive oil, a bit of cheap conditioner like Tresemme, and an egg; coffee rinses and mixing shea butter and oils.
Do you have any Favorite Products?:
I absolutely love Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream, Taliah Waajid The Great Detangler, Taliah Waajid Curl Sealer, all of which runs about $8 separately, and Carol’s daughter lisa’s hair elixir, which runs about $22 dollars.
Do you have any advice on Going Natural?:
Not to jock Nike… but, just do it. I love Indie Arie and all, and while I may not be my hair… but my hair is a part of my aesthetic. & I embrace beauty, fully.
