Hey, Curlies!
I’ve been mixing up a lot of DIY hair care products lately and there has been so much interest in what type of ingredients they contain. I want to share with you all my recent wash day routine containing completely plant-based ingredients.
I didn’t use one hair product you could find in the store, just my DIY products. Guess what? My hair was the softest and most moisturized I’d ever felt! I had no idea how much of an impact these DIY hair care recipes would truly have.
If you’re wondering, I used ingredients like aloe vera, essential oils, avocados, honey, and other plant-based ingredients. I did not use any preservatives, so I made just enough product for one-time use or kept them in the fridge for a few days.
Here’s a breakdown of my wash day complete with videos:

Cleanse
I washed my hair with my DIY Avocado-Aloe Shampoo that contained ingredients like avocado and fresh aloe vera juice along with some other goodies.
Check out my mixing video below (Ignore the kiddo in the back lol):
This shampoo has so many benefits:
- It left my hair so clean, soft and moisturized, I didn’t even feel like I needed a conditioner
- A little goes a long way. Even though I made 5 ounces of shampoo, I only needed 1 oz.
I stored the rest in the refrigerator for my next wash.

Condition
Once my shampoo was rinsed, I deep conditioned with my DIY Avocado Conditioner. It contains, of course, avocados, honey, and other great ingredients.
Here’s how I prep my avocados for the DIY conditioner:
This is one of my favorite DIY conditioners because it’s so creamy! The avocados also give my hair a little bit of a protein boost as well.
I rinsed with warm water and moved on to my final rinse.
Rinse
I finished my wash day with my DIY herbal hair rinse. This version of my rinse contains Holy Basil, aka Tusli, and fresh lavender.
Here’s what my prep looks like:
The key when making this herbal hair rinse is to let it steep in the fridge for at least 24 hours. I then strain the herbs and pour the cool mixture over my hair as my final rinse.
It helps to prevent hair loss and dandruff.
