How long have you been natural?

I have been natural for two years and two months, and it has definitely been a learning experience for me.

Why did you go natural?

I went natural because my hair was truly unhealthy after years of applying a relaxer. My hair is already fine and fragile, and combining that situation with a relaxer and constant heat was detrimental to my hair causing an unnatural amount of breakage that left my hair both limp and damaged.

When did you Big chop?

I did my BC on a whim, and I chopped my hair on May 29, 2010. I had transitioned for 5 months prior to that, and I was just too fed up with my two textures to keep that process up any longer…lol

A short regimen you can share?

Daily:

I usually spritz my hair with an Aloe Vera Juice and Water mixture and seal with Jojoba Oil.

Weekly:

First, I like to deep condition my hair with either Lustrasilk or ORS Hair Mayo on dry hair. Then I cowash with Tressemme Naturals. I detangle my hair with Kinky Curly Knot today. After that, I will moisturize and seal as usual or use a styling product like Taliah Waajid’s Curly Curl Cream to style my hair in braids or twists!

Do you have any Favorite Products?

I absolutely love Tressemme Naturals Conditioner, and I could not live without my Olive Oil Ecostyler Gel.

Do you have any advice on Going Natural?

YES! 🙂 First, I would advise anybody thinking about going natural to be willing to research natural hair methods and techniques. You have to know a variety of ways to deal with natural hair because the first method you try might not work out for your head of hair. Natural hair is trial and error! The next thing is you have to be willing to appreciate the curl that grows out of your scalp. It’s okay to be inspired by other naturals, but don’t expect your curl pattern to be an exact replica of theirs. If that’s your only reason for going natural, then that might not be the best bet for you, and lastly, find a support system. Whether it’s your close friend or online youtube friend in your mind. You’ll have lots of questions that need answers, and it’s just nice to have someone more experienced helping you along the way!
