Hey Curlies,

If you all have been following along with me for a while, you know that twist and twist outs are my favorite style. I get a lot of questions on how I get my twistouts to last and what products I use. I decided to put all of this information into one post to make things much easier for you all.

March 2012

How To…

  • Begin with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Co-washed hair is also acceptable
If you would like more length on your twist, try banding your hair overnight to stretch your hair first. If not continue on. If you go with the stretching method, the next steps also apply to you.
  • Once your twist are finished leave them in for about three days. Be sure to refresh your hair with your spray bottle mix twice a day. Use a satin scarf at night, not a bonnet. The scarf will keep your twists laid down so when it is time to untwists, the hair will hang.
  • On day four, slowly unravel your twists using an oil. I use coconut oil
  • DO NOT separate or “fluff” your twists. No parts should be showing but if they are, use a wide toothed comb to gently lift the roots
  • Your twistout should last about 2-5 days
Things to Remember:
  • If you are not comfortable wearing your twists outdoors, pin them up into a cute style or even try a hat. (sunhats are perfect for this weather). Add hair accessories such as headbands and flowers to make it fancy.
