If the realities of adulthood were thoroughly explained while we were younger, I’m sure we would have appreciated our childhood a bit more.

Now we are working full-time jobs, running businesses, and supporting families all while trying to keep it together. There comes a time when we must hit pause on our busy lives, even just for a moment. We must reset, and it is completely ok to do so.

I’ve had plenty of moments where I needed to stop and recharge. Did I feel guilty? Of course, until I realized that it was absolutely necessary to “re-fill” my cup. Imagine a vehicle that gets you from point A to point Z. At some point along that journey, you’ll need to stop for gas to “refill”. This also applies to your journey in life.

Here are some ways you can hit a mental reset from the comfort of your own home.

Set a Mood with Music

Music has the power to induce positive emotions and decrease stress. For this reason it is one of my favorite ways to reset. Create a music playlist based on your preferences. Upbeat and inspirational to start the day and mellow to settle the mood on your drive home.

“Wine down”

After the day is done, take a moment to wine down with your favorite Pinot or herbal tea. As you sip away make sure to be present in that moment. Place your phone on Do Not Disturb, light a candle or your favorite essential oil and tune out all distractions.

You can also have virtual wine down with a friend or two. Create a space where you and your friend(s) can decompress and vent about your day/week.

Physical activity

Working out is a great way to release stress and mentally reset. Thanks to technology, workouts are at the palm of our hands. From yoga to kickboxing, there are many apps that have customized workouts based on your needs.

Here’s a bonus!

Laugh

Laughter is known for reducing stress hormones and it is my go-to method for resetting. A light-hearted comedy sitcom or movie can alleviate any of the day’s stress. Grab your family and make it a movie night or enjoy it on your own. Either way you’ll surely feel refreshed afterwards.

I hope at least one of these methods helps you refill your cup in your time of need. We deserve wholeness in our lives, without it we do a disservice to ourselves and others. Fill your cup…often.
