Hey Curlies,

Last week was definitely one of the worst weeks as I was involved in a car accident, but this week will be better…I know it 🙂 I have a few posts lined up for you all, but first I wanted to start off addressing the Ava DuVernay Barbie.

I think this cute doll is seriously just in time for the holiday season….in fact it has been reported that the doll is completely sold out so I know it’s a hot item on holiday lists this year.

So if you don’t know who DuVernay is, she is the legendary director that worked on the film “Selma,” which I loved. Fans pushed for an official Barbie doll and those at Mattel made some dreams come true! The doll is a one-of-a-kind and is one of six dolls based on inspirational women in the entertainment industry.

DuVernay announced the sale of the doll on Twitter earlier this month saying:

“Tomorrow this Ava Barbie goes on sale for Christmas because enough folks asked Mattel to do so.”

In an additional Tweet she stated all proceeds will be donated to Witness and Color of Change charities. The doll was available at TheBarbieCollection.com. The doll was also briefly available on Amazon before it quickly sold out as well.

Barbie then Tweeted:
“We’re excited to share that the @AVAETC #Barbie doll has sold out! Thank you all for your excitement and making this collab such a success!”

Although this has proven to be a rough time for African-Americans, there has been some great advances for the community. Good job Ava!

Did you order this doll? What do you all think about this? Leave your comments below.
