Hey Curlies,

Just wanted to remind you all of a quick hair tip for winter care that involves coconut oil. This just crossed my mind as I washed my hair Monday and applied a great amount of coconut oil to my hair before I left the house.

My hair felt super soft while inside, but soon as I stepped outside into the winter cold, my hair seemed to freeze.

Yes, you read that right. In other words, it seemed stiff.

This is because I was using real coconut oil.

Here is my coconut oil warning:

I love to use coconut oil because it minimizes any scalp dryness I may have, however, real coconut oil solidifies at cool temperatures.

If your coconut oil does not turn solid in the winter, either your home is quite warm (maybe you love the heat as I do) or you do not have authentic coconut oil.

Using real coconut oil for your hair in cold temperatures causes it to turn solid. In return, your hair feels stiff.

Now I don’t want to scare you. This doesn’t mean you can’t use coconut oil during the cold months.

You just need to be careful when applying the oil to your hair shortly before heading outdoors.

What I do, and what I recommend is to apply the oil before bed. This way it has a chance to absorb by the morning.

If you plan to use a hair product made with coconut oil, treat the product the same as previously mentioned.
