Hey, Curlies!
The fall season is in full swing and pumpkins are usually the star of the show. You may use pumpkins to decorate your table, front porch, or eat them during Thanksgiving, but you can include pumpkins into your hair and skincare routine. Don’t let your pumpkins go to waste. Use them to make your own plant-based hair and face masks.
After the mini pumpkins on my table sat for a few weeks, I decided to put them to good use instead of tossing them. I created a DIY pumpkin hair and face mask.
Using pumpkins during the fall season is common, but you may be new to using them in your beauty routine. Pumpkins have incredible benefits for your hair and skincare routine.
Benefits of Pumpkins for Hair
- B vitamins improve scalp circulation
- Helps combat dandruff
- May treat hair loss
- Strengthens and adds shine
Benefits of Pumpkins for Skin
- Loaded with vitamin c
- Improves skin tone and elasticity
- Promotes collagen production
- Zinc helps fight acne
This DIY pumpkin hair and face mask is also made with another powerful ingredient – yogurt. As you can see, this mask is edible. Yogurt is excellent for fighting acne, adding moisture to the skin, fading blemishes, and hyperpigmentation among other benefits. For your hair, yogurt can provide protein and cleanse the scalp.
Let’s get to the recipe!
DIY Pumpkin Hair + Face Mask
Ingredients
- 1 cup Greek yogurt – use Greek for thickness
- 2 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin puree – fresh recommended but canned works too!
Directions
- Gather and measure all ingredients. If using a fresh pumpkin, cut into chunks to fill one cup and boil for 20-30 minutes until soft. Drain the water, mash, and mix until smooth consistency. If using canned pumpkin puree – not pumpkin filling – measure 2 1/2 teaspoons.
2. Combine pumpkin puree with the Greek yogurt.
3. Use a whisk to mix until smooth
How to use Your DIY Pumpkin Hair + Face Mask
- Wash your face with a gentle cleanser
2. Apply to face.
3. Cover full face and let sit for 4-5 minutes.
When using this DIY pumpkin face mask, you’ll want to rinse with cool water and follow up with a toner like rosewater and a facial moisturizer.
This recipe can store in the fridge for 1-2 days in an airtight container.
How to use the DIY Pumpkin Mask for Hair
This mask is fabulous for hair as it provides great protein. After cleansing, apply this mask generously in place of your traditional hair conditioner. You’ll want to cover it with a cap and let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing with cool water. The application process will look similar to that in my DIY Honey Sage Conditioner tutorial.
