Hey Curlies,

We all have those certain things that do the trick for us. They are those activities to help calm us down. Whether they include counting to 5 before you have a freakout moment, or stopping overwhelming thoughts from creeping into your mind – they are our little pieces of self care.

When I was a kid, I filled up the pages of several notebooks with my thoughts and goals. Journaling has always been a way for me to release my feelings and face my authentic truths.

By the time I started college, I’d let go of my daily journaling routine, but as of the past few weeks, I’ve picked it back up. Let me tell you, I’m so glad I did.

The idea of reintroducing myself to journaling as an act of self care happened when I was in the middle of changing career paths. I knew I wanted something more and constantly had thoughts and ideas swirling in my mind. These frequent thoughts often left me overwhelmed, which is how journaling saved the day.

I figured if I could get my feelings on paper, I would feel much better, less stressed – and I did.

Now, I try to journal at least 3 times a week. I always feel relieved and satisfied with my thoughts. It allows me to be extremely honest with myself, without the fear of someone reading.

If you love to journal, carve out just 5 minutes to get your thoughts on paper. I promise you that once you start, 5 minutes will quickly become 10 minutes and so forth.

It’s a great stress reliever, and is one of the main ways I incorporate self care into my weekly routine.

What does your self care routine look like?
