Hey, Curlies!

I have a brand new plant-based DIY shampoo recipe you can whip up yourself in minutes. I constantly get requests for more DIY recipes, so here’s my attempt to share more of my DIY beauty knowledge.

It’s been a little over a year since I’ve used commercial shampoo. This means shampoo you’d find in a store. I’ve been making my own shampoos using a variety of plant-based ingredients with amazing results. Here’s the proof. Buy any of my products in the Make It Classy store.

For those who want to get into making their own products at home but don’t know where to start, here’s a quick and easy DIY shampoo recipe that’s great for those with dandruff or other scalp issues. Once you’re done with this one, be sure to check out this DIY Honey-Sage Conditioner recipe.

NOTE: This recipe contains Castile soap and should not be used on color-treated hair.

Tea Tree-Jojoba Shampoo Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
  • 1/2 cup distilled water
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerine
  • 2 tablespoons jojoba oil
  • 20 drops tea tree essential oil

Directions

Using a squeeze bottle with a nozzle top (think an old school ketchup bottle), add all of the ingredients and give it a very light shake before use. That’s it! If you have any leftover, store your shampoo in the fridge and use it within a week to prevent bacteria from growing.

Why Use This Recipe

This basic shampoo is made with fabulous ingredients that are easy to find in the store. Tea Tree is anti-fungal and anti-viral which makes it excellent for curing any scalp issues you may be experiencing. Jojoba oil is the oil closest to our scalp’s natural production – called sebum. It’s very light but perfect for hydrating your scalp.
