Is COVID-19 starting to feel like freshman 15? Are you finding it harder and harder to stay out of the kitchen? I think everyone may be starting to feel the effects of sheltering in place, limited physical activity, and continuous access to the kitchen.

When all of this started, I was all about getting in the kitchen and cooking healthy meals galore. However, the longer this has gone on the more I realized although I love to cook and have really good food in the house, this whole idea of cooking more once a week was not for me! I am a meal prep or easy prep kinda girl.

So here are some of my tips for eating healthy:

  1. Keep the healthy stuff in and limit the not so healthy stuff. I am not big on the whole restriction diet type of thing. I prefer to stay stocked up on all the healthy foods that I love and buy limited quantities of the not-so-good stuff. It’s early summer so summer fruits are hitting grocery stores so stock up and enjoy. I also keep my freezer stocked with frozen veggies and fruit for quick meals and smoothies.
  2. Try recipes. I am not the person who eats the same thing day in and day out. It gets boring as heck really fast. My suggestion is to try something new and different. Make Pinterest your friend or utilize Google to find fun and healthy recipes. I am slowly starting to be interested in eating more vegetarian dishes so I have purchased more food that fits that desire.
  3. Find a friend. I am a big fan of having accountability and sharing food with friends and family. Even in the current times, let’s get creative and find a way to connect over food. Maybe a cooking war on Zoom or Hangouts. Or maybe a brunch over the internet with friends.

Whatever you decide on your food choices, recognize that what you eat is just as important as how much physical activity you’re getting! Don’t allow the pandemic to cause you to completely let go of your goals or intention to eat healthy in 2020. You can find a new normal! So here’s to getting back on track!!
