Hey Curlies,

Today’s guest post comes from Sally over at ThinkOily.com and she’s sharing some of her best DIY recipes for curly hair.

It’s a known fact that every woman on the planet dreams of having gorgeous, manageable, soft and silky hair. Sadly, millions of women have spent their whole lives relying on commercial hair products like shampoos and conditioners that contain ingredients that damage hair over time. What these women are left with is hair that is dry, frizzy and dull.

Women who have naturally curly hair have to be especially careful with what ingredients they put in their hair. Hair that is naturally curly is more prone to dryness and frizz.

That’s because when it comes to curly hair, each hair shaft is structured in a way that makes it more difficult for hair’s natural oils to distribute themselves evenly.

What’s So Bad About Commercial Hair Products?

The problem with commercial hair care brands is that they often use ingredients that are inexpensive to mass produce. These cheap ingredients are not healthy for our hair.

For instance, most commercial shampoo products contain a chemical called sodium lauryl sulfate. This chemical is what gives shampoo a rich and foamy lather.
Sodium lauryl sulfate is a harsh detergent that is often found in car engine degreasers and commercial floor cleaners. It aggressively strips our hair of its natural oils, leaving hair dry, damaged and frizzy.

Most commercial hair care brands also use synthetic fragrances. These harsh chemicals dry out hair as well as the skin on the scalp, leading to problems like dandruff.
