Hey, Curlies!

Whew! How times have changed. Today requires us to wear a face mask before leaving our homes to ensure we remain safe from COVID-19. While it’s our social responsibility to prevent the spread of viruses, let’s be honest – wearing a face mask can be extremely uncomfortable and can wreak havoc on your skin.

It’s one thing to wear a face mask just to the store or post office, but our healthcare heroes wear them constantly. In addition to ear irritations, face masks can cause dry skin. So what’s a girl to do?

We want you to continue wearing face masks without sacrificing healthy skin. Here are some of our best tips for keeping your skin healthy under a face mask.

Keeping Skin Healthy Under a Face Mask

face mask skin care tips

Oil Massage: The friction from wearing a face mask can cause dryness and irritation. Immediately after cleansing your face, massage a light oil into damp skin. Sweet almond and jojoba oils are great to use. Really concentrate on massaging the chin and mouth areas. This can be done twice per day – once in the morning, and before bed.

Facial Mask: Treat your skin to a beauty facial mask. After cleansing skin, apply your beauty face mask and let it sit for 10-15 minutes until it dries. It can do wonders for your skin with consistent use. Try using one 2-3 times per week. I recommend Make It Classy’s Radiant Rae Rose Clay Face Mask or Modest Mia Matcha Face Mask.

Dry Brushing: Sometimes your skin needs a circulation boost. Dry brushing is the perfect way to gently exfoliate your skin. It helps remove dead skin cells and flakes. It’s important to use the correct brush when taking advantage of this option. See a handful here. You’ll want to start at the top of your face and work your way toward your heart. Keep in mind, dry brushing is not suited for those with rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis.

Use these tips to keep your skin glowing no matter if you’re wearing a mask or not.
